Pediatric Therapy Center Moves to Harrison

Westchester Therapy Solutions moved from White Plains to Harrison and opened its state-of-the-art location in February.

Westchester Therapy Solutions provides occupational, physical, and speech therapies for infants through teens with motor, language, or sensory processing difficulties. Previously in White Plains, the pediatric therapy center's new location has a café and more space for therapy equipment and facilities, including a pirate ship, toddler zone, speech clinic, and sensory exploration room.

The large pirate ship, built by Westchester Therapy Solutions, lets children climb, play, and interact as they look for buried golden treasure. The toddler zone includes a ball pit, climbing activities, and a swing apparatus. Colorful murals are painted on the walls of the practice, such as a day at the beach mural in the sensory room.

The sensory room is a space committed to relieving children overwhelmed by the sensory processing difficulties they may have. Among many of its features are a sound machine, dimmed lights, and soft rocks. Westchester Therapy Solutions uses the sensory room to work on attention, frustration tolerance, and many other skills.

“The environment here organically facilitates play and facilitates language just because of how inviting it is," says Donna Klein, founder and director of Westchester Therapy Solutions. "I find all of my therapists sitting on one side of our entire gym together working with kids, so organically they’re [children] working on social skills. For many children with special needs, social skills are a concern of parents. It [developing social skills] happens naturally here where the therapists team up together and really work with the kids.”

Therapist-led social skills playgroups—including a picky eaters group and a buddy club—are scheduled to start in July and will facilitate pragmatic language and turn-taking, and aim to increase self-esteem.
