The Mets Will Host First-Ever Inclusion Day at Citi Field

The event will feature a pre-game carnival and activities adapted so every kid can feel comfortable participating.

SO Fun City, an organization provides inclusive enrichment programming that suits the needs of all children, has teamed up with the New York Mets to host the first-ever Inclusion Day at Citi Field on August 7. The event will feature a pre-game carnival inside the stadium with activities that are modified to meet all kids’ needs and abilities. SO Fun City’s founders, a board certified behavioral analyst and a professional magician, created the event when they realized the extent of the city’s need for inclusive programming. Beyond the Citi Field carnival, the company has worked with schools, camps, and organizations to create programming, and provides training to schools and camps so staff can better understand how to respond to certain behaviors in kids, be more inclusive, and work to decrease bullying.

Inclusive Day will feature face painting, spin art, games and prizes, and more. Local businesses JSB Partners, Sawyer (a startup that connects parents to programming for their kids), BB&T Capital Markets, Behavioral Milestones, and The Circus Guy have all helped make the carnival possible through sponsorships.

Kids can have fun the inaugural carnival on August 7 in the Bullpen Plaza from 10:40am-12:10pm, the time slotted for the Mets’ opening pitch against the Florida Marlins. For more information on the event, email [email protected]. If you plan on bringing eight or more kids to play, please contact the Mets’ Aaron Ryley at 718-559-3073.

Finding inclusive programming that helps kids with and without special needs play together can be challenging, even in the city. See our roundup of inclusive fun in Special Parent for playtime inspiration.
