Brooklyn Parents Can Now Take a Mommy-and-Me Cemetery Tour

The Park Slope Parents Association is now offering a unique tour to New York City area families. You and your kids can take a stroller tour through a local cemetery. Sounds scary, right?

However, this tour is not as scary as it seems and because us New Yorkers are pretty jaded anyhow, why not try something new and be the first of your friends to check out this unique and truly New York experience?

The 45-minute walk will cover al the details of the historic Green-Wood Cemetery as well as its outdoor sculpture garden. There are also some beautiful flowers in bloom during this time and Time Out New York reports, "Parents might be in favor of visiting grave sites of famous figures such as soda fountain creator, John Matthews, but kiddies will definitely enjoy a walk past the cemetery’s koi pond and other animal-related pitstops."

Some of the animal-related pitstops include:

  • A flock of Monk parrots at the 25th Street entrance
  • A turtle named Godzilla
  • The grave of a permanent canine resident, Fanie

Visitors will also get a chance to take in the sights at Brooklyn's highest and most scenic spot.

Park Slope mom, Carla Weiss, told the the Brooklyn Paper, “I was one of those people who thought cemeteries aren’t places you can walk around in unless you’re visiting somebody, and through Susan [Park Slope Parents Assocation manager] I discovered you can go and visit history at Green-Wood, and you can see some of the most beautiful views in all of Brooklyn.”

The event is scheduled for Tuesday April, 24 at 10:30am and registration is required and you must pay in advance, the cost of the tour is $10. You also must register to be a member of the Park Slope Parents Association to take part in this event. The tour is also geared toward parents with toddlers and babies and while tots will certainly enjoy being outside, the material covered on the tour is meant for parents.
