Nitehawk Cinema Prospect Park to Announce Opening Date this Summer

The popular dine-in theater is coming to Prospect Park this year.


Nitehawk Cinema, a popular movie theater originally located in Williamsburg, recently announced its plans to open a dine-in movie theater in Prospect Park this year. Nitehawk Cinema Prospect Park will open in the Pavilion Theatre in Park Slope, and will show a variety of films, including family- and kid-friendly movies and rare prints. The opening date will be announced later this summer. 

Nitehawk Cinema Prospect Park is slated to open in 2018, but it recently announced its official opening date is to be revealed this summer.

“We promise it’s on the horizon,” says Nitehawk’s June 7, 2018 Facebook post regarding the anxiously awaited arrival of the theater.

It will be taking the place of the beloved Pavilion Theatre. After approximately 90 years of operation and three different ownerships, the Pavilion Theatre closed its doors in 2016.

The Nitehawk Cinema’s original Williamsburg location opened in 2011. The company says the Prospect Park location’s hours, menu, and vibe will be similar to the Williamsburg location, maintaining the same dine-in experience. It also says this location will have seven screens, a size capable of showing a mix of new and classic Hollywood blockbuster films, as well as independent films, including more family-friendly programing.



“As always, we’ll be very judicious in what we choose,” says the new location’s website.

Four of the seven screens will have 35mm reel capability, as the cinema claims to be committed to continuing to show rare prints and enhanced views. More print formats will be confirmed at a later date.

The theater will be wheelchair accessible with elevator access, and the menu includes items for those with a vegan, gluten-free, or vegetarian diet. All patrons younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

This summer Nitehawk is also hosting free family-friendly movie screenings in Prospect Park, which began mid-July, to benefit the diverse communities who use the park. The lineup will include the original classics such as The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, West Side Story, and Space Jam. The screenings will take place on four Wednesdays throughout July and August.
