Luxury iPic Movie Theater Opens in Dobbs Ferry

Luxury iPic Movie Theater Opens in Dobbs Ferry

iPic movie theaters feature food and beverage service and reclining couch-like seats.

Growing up, Annie was my favorite movie. I particularly loved the scene when Annie goes to the movies with Daddy Warbucks at Radio City Music Hall. I yearned to have a moviegoing experience just like that, with plush seating, privacy, helpful ushers, and the feeling that I was really going out for a night on the town. Instead, at my local cinema, I was usually greeted with popcorn remnants on the floor, sticky seats, and long lines when a new film opens.

But the new iPic movie theater opening May 5 in Dobbs Ferry harkens back to the days when seeing a movie was a special experience. The theater features patented seating pods and chaise lounge seating. These fully reclining seats have private viewing pods, courtesy pillows, and plush blankets, plus unlimited popcorn.

Ticketholders can choose Premium or Premium Plus seating based on the desired level of food and beverage service. Premium Plus ticketholders can even have “ninja” servers bring them drinks or food with the simple touch of a button.

The iPic menus offer delicious gourmet grub conceptualized by James Beard-award-winning chef Sherry Yard, who incorporates local and seasonal ingredients. There are numerous kid-friendly options, including tater tots and s'mores cake. Master Bartender and Advanced Sommelier Adam Seger’s cocktail menu features garden-to-glass ingredients such as fresh mint and house-made Perrier-demerara ginger beer if you plan to go there for date night. (His spirit-free ginger beer has been a huge hit among the pregnant set.)

This is the 16th iPic movie theater to open, and the first in Westchester. This branch has the largest iPic-owned restaurant on-site, called City Perch & Kitchen. The restaurant is hoping to be a dining destination in the Rivertowns in its own right, with outdoor patio seating, but moviegoers can also pop in before or after the show for contemporary comfort food sourced from local farms.

iPic will host children’s birthday parties and also offer interactive gaming nights, during which kids can bring laptops and play Minecraft or other popular video games against each other live in the auditorium.

To celebrate the theater’s grand opening, Westchester residents can obtain one free premium movie ticket by signing up at ipic.com before May 10. Ticket prices will range from $12-$25 and can be purchased at the theater, online at ipic.com or via the iPic app.

The popular kid-friendly movie Boss Baby will be on the line-up for opening week.
