Fun Fit Kids Opens on Upper West Side and Develops Program for Kids With Special Needs

On September 4, Fun Fit Kids opened its first physical location on the Upper West Side. With the establishment of this space, it also developed a new program that will allow children with developmental and cognitive disabilities to participate in any of its fitness classes.

Founded by husband and wife team Danny Kron and Robyn Miller in 2016, Fun Fit Kids offers a range of programs designed to encourage kids ages newborn-11 years old to move and be active. Classes are organized according to age group and are 35 minutes to an hour long. In the free mommy-and-me style Go Go Baby classes, which are held in 35-minute sessions, babies newborn-4 months old focus on the basics of movement, including crawling and lying on the tummy. Kids in the Multi-Sports classes have the chance to try out and learn the core fundamentals of seven different sports: soccer, basketball, softball and baseball, tennis, golf, volleyball, floor hockey, lacrosse, and track and field and gymnastics. The small class size of 4 to 5 kids makes it easier for instructors to tailor each session to meet the interest of the participants.

“What differentiates us is our ratio of instructor to student,” says Miller. “We have the ability to specialize in what the class is interested in.” All instructors are either currently studying to receive or have already received a degree in physical education.

Prior to opening the new facility, Fun Fit kids offered its curriculums in various private schools and enrichment programs throughout the community. Now, the 2,700 square foot open-floor multi-sports center includes a private room available for birthday parties and other private events. Here, Fun Fit Kids was able to develop the Open Sports program, the new inclusion-based program that gives children with developmental and cognitive disabilities the chance to partake in any of the offered classes. At an extra fee, an additional trained instructor joins the class and provides any assistance that the child may require.

“We’re a small business that’s trying to help families,” Miller says. Though it may be small, Fun Fit Kids is certainly growing.

Fun Fit Kids is located in 550 W 110th St, Upper West Side. For more information, visit the Fun Fit Kids website or call 646-580-3758.
