Domino Park to Open in Brooklyn This Summer

Domino Park to Open in Brooklyn This Summer

This unique park will feature a playground and water-play area!

This large park, that will span a quarter-mile of Brooklyn's waterfront from from Grand Street to South 5th Street in Williamsburg, is set to open this June. It will inhabit the old Domino Sugar Factory location and will include an artifact walk, original factory machinery, and of course, a playground for kids.

The park will also include a water feature that will include sprinklers and a mist and spray stream that is surrounded by seating so parents can relax while their kiddos cool off in the water. You can also take in the amazing views at the picnic area that will be able to accomodate 80-100 people. A day in Williambsurg with the family just got a lot more exciting!

The park will feature, "two bocce courts and a 1,750-square-foot dog run to a sand volleyball court and a children’s play area that’s been designed to resemble a miniature Domino Sugar Factory," Curbed reports.

The design is being created by the architecture firm James Corner Field Operations, which is the same company behind the High Line so New York families are sure to be in for a kid-friendly and scenic park.

A large effort is also being made to preserve some of the history of the area and with that, a 450-ft long Artifact Walk will showcase more than 30 original pieces of machinery from the original Domino Sugar Factory including, "screw conveyors, bucket elevators, original signage, and four 36-foot tall cylindrical tanks that were once used to collect syrup during the refining process, in an area now known as Syrup Garden," reports Curbed.

A tiered seating area is also in the works, that will allow for performances, and after you work up an appetite walking and playing head over to Tacocina, a taco stand that will be located right below the Artifact Walk, brought over by famed restauranteur Danny Meyer.
