Book Nook Offers NYC History-Based Summer Program

Early childhood enrichment program Book Nook will offer an educational summer camp on the Upper West Side. The educational summer program will focus on New York City's history and attractions.

Book Nook, an early childhood enrichment program, offers a year-round skill-building program to cultivate early childhood education. This year, it will offer a summer program for children ages 2½-5 during which participants will learn the history of New York City and experience its attractions without leaving the classroom.

“This summer, we are offering a summer ‘staycation,’” says founder Rina Patel, MS. Ed., whose decade-long experience as a teacher in New York City led her to develop programs geared toward theme-based learning. “We bring the space to them.”

The program will run July 7-Aug. 13 and will take children on a six-week tour of New York City. Each week will focus on a different aspect of the city’s landmarks and history, such as Central Park, Museum of Modern Art, Broadway, and Ellis Island.

The summer program will be offered three days in the middle of each week. Enrollment has begun for children who are already a part of Book Nook, and general enrollment will begin in mid-February.

Book Nook is also introducing a more advanced level to its year-round literacy development program for grade-school children. Once a week, children, grouped by age from the youngest (Lil’ Hoots) up to kindergarten and first grade (Wise Owls), learn and develop skills to reach milestones in areas such as social learning, language and communication skills, and cognitive thinking. Book Nook familiarizes students with content taught in public and private schools including reading, writing, math, and science concepts, according to Patel. Enrollment for the new school year will begin in March on a rolling basis.
