BASIS Independent Schools Expand to Four Campuses in NYC

BASIS Independent Schools Expand to Four Campuses in NYC

Applications for both the Manhattan and Brooklyn schools are now open for the 2021-2022 school year.

BASIS Independent Schools—the network of private schools—is expanding BASIS Independent Manhattan to include an Upper School campus in Chelsea. Its growing High School Program will be located in this new location. BASIS Independent Brooklyn will expand to a Lower School Campus at the City Point complex in Downtown Brooklyn. Both new campuses are slated to open fall 2021, and applications for 2021-2022 school year just launched.

BASIS Independent Manhattan will serve students PreK through high school on both the campuses. The original BASIS Independent Manhattan at 795 Columbus Avenue will focus on students in PreK to fifth grade. The Upper School campus, at 556 West 22nd Street, will accommodate sixth grade-twelfth grade.

“Our expansion is evidence of the demand for our BASIS Curriculum,” says Mark Allen, head of school for BASIS Independent Manhattan. ”Our program blends rigorous standards and foundational disciplinary study with ingenuity, creativity, and inclusiveness to create a world-class educational model. We know families have many choices among the long-standing and most reputable private schools in the country in New York City. The demand for our program is humbling, and we are committed to making it available to students and families.”

BASIS Independent Brooklyn's new Lower School allows for more students to benefit from the BASIS curriculum. The new campus will serve students in PreK through 2nd grade while the original campus in Red Hook will focus on third through twelfth grade.

“For the past three years we worked to find the right real estate to realize our vision for a nearby campus for our youngest students,” said Shari D. Cameron, the head of school for the new Lower School campus. “Starting in fall 2021, we are excited to bring our well-rounded, globally-benchmarked program to City Point in Downtown Brooklyn.”

Cameron spent the last five years as a director at BASIS Independent Brooklyn, leading teams across academic programs, admissions, and student affairs.
