Spring is here! And there’s no shortage of places to go to spend the season. Kick off the season at WildPlay, visit a cherry blossom festival or celebrate Earth Day!

Fractal curves are beautifully complex structures created by repeatedly applying a simple rule.

One of the most famous fractal curves is called the “Heighway dragon,” because its shape ends up looking a lot like a dragon! Join math hobbyist, artist, and entrepreneur Robert Fathauer and learn how to make your own dragon curve simply by folding a strip of paper.

Then, join in a collaborative construction to combine everyone’s curves into an even bigger dragon in an evening filled with fractal fun

Seek Out Owls

Science Museum of Long Island | Details
April 19, 7 to 9 pm

Seek the silent fliers of the night: owls! Learn about Long Island’s native owls, dissect owl pellets to discover what they eat, then journey into Leeds Pond Preserve to find them. Visit homemade owl nests and some other likely resting spots before settling down at the campsite for a campfire and some s’mores.

Kids can get up close to animals, meet conservation experts and more! During this session, learn all about budgies, the colorful birds that live at the Bronx Zoo. Participants will gain early access to the zoo, help make enrichment for our animals, and get an up close animal encounter with a small animal ambassador.

Catch the Long Island Ducks in Action

Fan Fest offers Ducks fans the chance to see Long Island’s hometown team as they prepare for the 2024 season. Fans will have the exclusive opportunity to watch the Ducks take batting practice beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Following batting practice, the Ducks will head to the main concourse along the first base line for a team autograph session with all fans. Youngsters will be able to enjoy several fun activities along the main concourse.

Welcome spring to Long Island with the blooming of sakura (cherry blossoms), the sounds of taiko drums, and a wondrous array of Japanese cultural exhibits at the Wang Center!

The Wang Center will provide many exciting activities, including Koto plays, Japanese traditional dances, martial arts demonstrations, hands-on bonsai workshops, calligraphy workshops, ikebana flower arrangement, tea workshops, manga drawing, origami paper folding, kimono dress-ups, and cosplay (costumed role-play of a Japanese manga character) for all ages.

<p>Play On! Studios offers theater day camps and after-school classes on the UWS that are guaranteed to give kids a summer full of acting, music, and fun they won't soon forget! Young actors will rehearse and perform in a full production, work with professional NYC actors/teaching artists, build up their skills in a nurturing, non-competitive environment and play lots of drama games!</p> <p>Creative Drama Camps are perfect for kids entering grades K-4. Campers will work each week to put on a brand-new show! Each session, they will receive a script, rehearse a production, make a set and costumes, and perform their play. Kids will also play drama games, play outside (weather permitting), and have tons of fun!</p> <p>Musical Theater Camps are aimed at kids entering grades 4-9. In Musical Theater Performance Camp, campers put on a complete musical production in a professional NYC theater!
