4 Reasons We Love Mahwah, New Jersey

4 Reasons We Love Mahwah, New Jersey

Nature, history, food, and it's one of America's safest cities...

The quiet suburb of Mahwah, New Jersey, in Bergen County offers a taste of nature along with a small town feel many families crave while being just a 1-hour drive outside of the hustle and bustle of New York City. Mahwah is filled with outdoorsy activities that appeal to nature-loving clans, amazing food, and activities that the whole family will enjoy. Ranked as one of the 100 safest cities in America by Safewise, it is no wonder why families choose move here.

Here are the four reasons we love Mahwah:

Its Commitment to History

Mahwah’s deep commitment to preserving (and educating visitors about) its history is evident when visiting the Mahwah Museum. Explore Mahwah’s rich history along with surrounding areas at the museum, which provides an educational and fun time to spend with children. Two exhibits to check out while you are there are The Changing Roles of Women in Mahwah’s History and The History of Medicine in Mahwah. The Mahwah Museum also offers small group tours along with its educational visits for school and Scout groups.

The Abundance of Outdoor Activities

Mahwah is the place to come to enjoy outdoor activities with the family. One of the many attractions Mahwah is known for is the popular Campgaw Mountain. Campgaw Mountain is the place to be during the winter whether your interest is tubing, skiing, or snowboarding. Another huge outdoor attraction Mahwah residents and others from neighboring towns enjoy is Darlington County Park, which offers fishing (fishing license required), wildlife observation, picnic areas, a multi-use path, and more. During the summer season, Darlington has a sandy beach on a lake where kids can enjoy swimming, playing the sand, and burning off energy on the playground.

Its Devotion to Preserving Nature

Ramapo Valley County Reservation is a 4,000-acre county park that features gorgeous mountains, lakes, and waterfalls to explore via miles of hiking trails. A nice escape from the busy New York City, the reservation is the perfect place to visit for nature lovers to canoe or kayak, fish, camp, or cross-country ski in the winter—or any family looking for a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon with their dog. Plus, the views are sensational, so snap some lovely pictures.

Amazing Family-Friendly Restaurants

Mahwah restaurants never fail on keeping your family's bellies happy with its amazing restaurant options. Mahwah offers tons of different restaurant options such as Roxanne’s, which is always a treat for the whole family offering a wide selection of brick-oven pizzas, signature pasta dishes, and delicious salads. Another Mahwah favorite is the Mason Jar, which serves up its drinks in Mason Jars along with its American food. Don’t miss the State Line Diner offering everything from pancakes to sandwiches that will please anybody. The final place to give a try if the family is in the mood for burgers is the local burger joint, Boom Burger. Boom Burger offers a color atmosphere inside as well as outdoor seating. You will never go hungry in Mahwah!
