In honor of America's 236th birthday this July, we've rounded up fun and low-cost historical events happening this summer in Connecticut, including history tours and activities in Fairfield, Mashantucket, Norwalk, Rowayton, and Wilton.

See significant sites involved in the attack on Fairfield by the British at the Fairfield Museum and History Center’s Burning of Fairfield Walking Tour on July 7.

 

Learn about the “witch-dunking experiment” and other tidbits about downtown Fairfield’s colonial history when you take a Town Hall Green Walking Tour on July 21.

 

On Sundays, enjoy summer tours of the 1750 Ogden House and show your family a glimpse of how a colonial middle class family lived in the 18th century.

 

Mashantucket

On Saturdays, in Counting Colors and Cultures at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum, visitors view historic documents to learn about the censuses that were regularly taken of the Pequot Indians in the 19th century.

 

Norwalk

Jennifer Carter-Hirshhorn shares stories about her voyage to the world’s deepest shipwreck in Titanic Book Talk at Stepping Stones Museum on July 21.

 

Cars built before 1982 are on display at the Classic Car Show at Calf Pasture Beach on July 25.

 

Rowayton

Lend your voice to Open Chantey Singing, where nautical and maritime history is revived through music, on July 19 at Rowayton Arts Center.

 

Wilton

Learn fun facts about our presidents in So You Want to be President, a film based on the Caldecott Medal Book by Judith St. George screening July 3 at Wilton Library (FREE!).
